We used to rely on new additions to our wardrobes as a way to update our style and to bring  a new trend or two into our closets. With most of us curbing our enthusiasm for spending, updating and modernizing our look may require a little more ingenuity. I’m not saying this new fabulous line  of make up by D&G is inexpensive, but the simplest and most gratifying upgrade this Fall  might be at the make up counter at Saks Fifth Avenue. The powder foundation (which applied mixed with a little water gives a more dewy look), bronzer and nail lacquers are colors and textures to die for. So when the weather turns chilly and you want a little change to go with the temperature, get your D&G on and you will feel like a new woman!

It would have been Jackie Kennedy Onassis’ 80th birthday today. Jackie’s influence on our lives both as former First Lady and style icon is profound. This photo was taken when she was an editor at Viking Press. Jackie will forever be America’s First lady of style. She saw tragedy and joy during the Camelot years. She carried herself with dignity and grace at all times. Jackie left her mark on this country and the world.

Amber Valetta will have a line of sportswear of her own come November 2009. Like other models before her ( Kate Moss, Elle Macpherson, Erin Wasson), Amber will be creating clothes for real women. The sportwear line Monrow will collaborate with Amber.

Carolina Gonzalez Bunster, pictured above, is walking to launch her foundation and build awareness for spinal cord injury. Who better to capture the true essence of Paris than Balanciaga’s designer Nicolas Ghesquire?.  He has chosen Charlotte Gainsbourg, quintessential French actress and singer (and daughter of Jane Birkin). The fragrence is due to arrive in stores at the end of 2009. The party to celebrate the new fragrence (at LA’s Chateau Marmont) also kicked off the shoot that is taking place in LA which will result in a luscious ad campaign with Charlotte as the face in front of the scent.

Red Carter, a friend of and recent guest on A Fashionable Life, has proven once again that “life’s a beach”.  The trends that we have seen both on the runways for Fall 2009 and on the streets (and on Mrs. obama) have found their way into bathing suits and swimwear in general. The use of a wide belt or band at the waste is a flattering and brilliant idea. Red’s recent collection was filled with brights,  patterns and silhouettes which underscore Red’s skill as a swimwear designer and trendsetter.

We’re all for  bold fashion. We certaintly love color. But, Leighton chose a dress for a New York premiere that not only overpowered her, but clashed with the carpet and everything else in sight. It is summer so we might have suggested that she bring on a softer more “summery” feeling in her outfit choice. We don’t love the pink and red combination we’ve seen pop up all over the place and guess what? We’re not loving purple and red either!
